Mother’s Day is here, and we’re not letting it pass without shouting this from the rooftops: Moms, you are amazing.
You are the early risers, the late-night worriers, the cheerleaders, the boo-boo fixers, the ride providers, the snack packers, the question answerers, and the magic makers. Whether you’re a biological mom, a stepmom, an adoptive mom, a foster mom, a grandmother, a godmother, or a mother figure who showed up with love—you are what makes the world feel like home.
You love fiercely, stretch yourself endlessly, and still manage to keep your sense of humor (mostly). But in between all that giving, it’s easy to forget: You deserve care, too.
So, this Mother’s Day, we celebrate YOU—your laughter, your resilience, and your ability to carry so much, even when no one’s looking. And while we can’t fold the laundry for you (though we totally would if we could), we can remind you of a few simple, soul-nourishing ways to take care of yourself:
1. Sit Still, Just for a Bit
Give yourself permission to pause. Even five minutes of stillness—no phone, no tasks, just you—can help reset your mind and calm your spirit.
2. Say Yes to Something Just for You
Whether it’s a walk outside, an extra-long shower, or a guilty-pleasure TV show, carve out a little time for something that brings you joy. You deserve it.
Here are a couple more ideas:
- Join a book club (free) at your local library, there are so many to choose from! OPPL Website
- Head to Ouachita Live Outdoor Concert Series, this exciting event takes place on the last Friday of the month through October.
- Highland Park Wetland Trails is a wonderful place to walk, and you have access to free exercise equipment.
3. Hydrate and Snack Like You Matter (Because You Do)
Moms are often the last to eat—but your body needs fuel, too. Drink some water. Eat something that energizes you. Maybe even sit down while you do it (dream big).
4. Ask for Help—And Actually Let People Help
Repeat after us: Asking for help is not a weakness. It’s wisdom. Whether it’s your partner, a friend, or your kids—share the load. You don’t have to do it all alone. Even better, as Mother's Day approaches, talk to your kids about making a coupon book just for you! You could include things like folding laundry, dish duty, and sweeping, you get the idea!
5. Be Kind to the Woman in the Mirror
You’re doing more than enough. You are more than enough. Speak to yourself with the same gentleness you give to others. Grace over guilt, always.
So here’s to you, Mama. To your sacrifices, your strength, your soft heart, and your fierce love. May this Mother’s Day remind you just how treasured you are—not just for what you do, but for who you are.
We see you. We celebrate you. And we hope you take a moment today to celebrate yourself, too.
